Findings
Regulation & Licensing
90/100Swissquote’s client-facing companies are licensed in Switzerland, Luxembourg, Cyprus, the UK, the Dubai International Financial Centre, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Africa. Six of these licences were confirmed on the regulators’ own registers. International clients are served by the Swiss bank, and no offshore entity was found.
- StrengthSwissquote Bank SA, Gland, appears on FINMA’s list of authorised banks and securities firms. Swissquote Bank Europe SA is listed by the CSSF as a Luxembourg bank, valid since 13 November 2000, and since 5 June 2026 also as a crypto-asset service provider.
- StrengthSwissquote Capital Markets Limited holds CySEC licence 422/22, issued 21 November 2022, and runs Swissquote’s EU CFD website. Swissquote Ltd has been authorised by the FCA since 2 May 2012 (FRN 562170) and may hold client money.
- StrengthSwissquote MEA Ltd has been licensed by the DFSA since 16 July 2012 (reference F001438), with endorsements for retail clients and for holding client assets. Swissquote Pte. Ltd is listed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a Capital Markets Services licensee.
- ObservationSwissquote states that Swissquote Asia Ltd holds an SFC Type 3 licence for leveraged foreign exchange in Hong Kong, that Swissquote South Africa (Pty) Ltd is an FSCA-licensed financial services provider, and that its Malta company is licensed by the MFSA for fund custody and brokerage to non-retail clients. These were not checked at the registers.
Corporate Structure & Ownership
92/100The parent, Swissquote Group Holding Ltd, has been listed on SIX Swiss Exchange since 29 May 2000 and publishes consolidated accounts audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, with its significant shareholders disclosed.
- StrengthSwissquote Group Holding Ltd is listed on SIX Swiss Exchange (symbol SQN). Its 2025 consolidated IFRS accounts were audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers Ltd, and it published a half-year report for 2026.
- StrengthThe 2025 corporate governance report lists every group company with its regulator and names the shareholders above 3%: co-founder and chief executive Marc Bürki (11.15%), Paolo Buzzi (10.42%), UBS Fund Management (Switzerland) AG (5.41%) and BlackRock, Inc. (3.34%).
Client Money & Payouts
78/100Deposits at the Swiss bank are protected up to CHF 100,000 under Swiss depositor protection, deposits at the Luxembourg bank by the FGDL, clients of the Cyprus company by CySEC’s Investor Compensation Fund and clients of the UK company may be covered by the FSCS. The Cyprus company segregates client money and gives retail clients negative balance protection; the Swiss bank, which serves international clients, does not offer negative balance protection on Forex and CFDs.
- StrengthSwissquote’s 2025 accounts state that deposits of up to CHF 100,000 per depositor at Swissquote Bank Ltd are privileged under Swiss banking law, and that the bank covered 156% of its privileged deposits with eligible assets at 31 December 2025, against the 125% required. The Luxembourg bank is a member of the FGDL, which covers deposits up to EUR 100,000 and investments up to EUR 20,000.
- StrengthSwissquote Capital Markets Limited states that it is a member of the Investor Compensation Fund, that client funds are held in accounts segregated from its own funds, and that retail clients’ losses will never exceed the equity in their trading account.
- LowUnder the Swiss bank’s Forex and CFD terms, the client must pay any debit balance on the account, the automatic liquidation system is set up “for the sole benefit of the Bank”, and the client “may still suffer a loss much higher than the Margin”. Clients of the Swiss bank therefore have no negative balance protection, which Swiss rules do not require.
- ObservationNo investor compensation scheme was identified for clients of the Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong companies trading leveraged products. No regulator or court finding on client money was found.
Execution & Pricing
Not assessed in a desk audit. Spreads, slippage and fill quality can only be measured with live accounts.
Conduct & Disclosure
84/100No action by a financial regulator against a Swissquote company was found in the last eight years. In 2022 the SIX Sanctions Commission fined the listed parent CHF 75,000 for a negligent breach of the stock exchange’s ad hoc publicity rules.
- LowOn 29 November 2022 the Sanctions Commission of SIX Group fined Swissquote Group Holding SA CHF 75,000 for a negligent breach of the provisions on ad hoc publicity. Mainly because of a technical issue and human error, the push distribution of its 16 June 2021 announcement that it expected record half-year results ran about three hours late, during trading hours. The commission described the breach as “serious but not as severe”, and the decision became binding when Swissquote did not appeal.
- ObservationSwissquote’s 2025 accounts report provisions of CHF 12.5 million for litigation, client claims, legal and regulatory matters, and say they rose partly because of “the regulatory inquiries”. The accounts do not name the regulator or the subject, so this is recorded but not scored.
- ObservationSearches of the Ontario Capital Markets Tribunal, Brazil’s CVM sanctions cases, CySEC’s board decisions, the FCA and DFSA registers and the US Department of Justice’s Swiss Bank Program found no case against a Swissquote company. The FCA and the CSSF list clone websites using the Swissquote name; these are not connected with the group.
Operational Resilience
Not assessed in a desk audit. Uptime, incident history and security controls require evidence from the firm or live monitoring.
People & Community
30/100Great Place to Work Switzerland shows a certification dated February 2024, which is more than 24 months old. Swissquote reports donations of CHF 2.0 million in 2025 and names its community initiatives, including financial literacy classes with Young Caritas, a chair at EPFL and a CHF 2.5 million donation to ETH Zurich.
- ObservationGreat Place to Work Switzerland lists Swissquote with a certification dated February 2024, in a profile last updated in May 2025. No renewal was found, and a certification more than 24 months old does not count under our methodology.
- ObservationSwissquote’s 2025 sustainability report states donations of CHF 2,042,000 to NGOs, schools and sports clubs, a renewed partnership with Young Caritas on financial literacy in Swiss schools, five more years of funding for a chair in quantitative finance at EPFL, and a CHF 2.5 million donation over five years to the Zurich Information Security & Privacy Center at ETH Zurich. These are reported by Swissquote itself; its sports and UEFA sponsorships are commercial and are not counted.

Evidence and scope
Scope
Desk audit of the group’s client-facing entities, using public sources only: regulator registers and announcements, court and stock-exchange filings, and the firm’s own published documents, as available on 10 October 2026. No accounts were opened, nothing was tested live, and the firm was not asked for evidence.
Limitations
Absence of a public enforcement record is not evidence of good conduct. FINMA does not usually name the institutions in its enforcement proceedings. The Hong Kong, South African and Maltese licences are taken from Swissquote’s annual report; those registers were not queried. The regulator and subject of the “regulatory inquiries” mentioned in the 2025 accounts are not disclosed. Swiss depositor protection is described from Swissquote’s annual report; the esisuisse member search was not queried. Swissquote’s website served its EU and Swiss pages from our location. The share of clients served by each company could not be measured from public sources.
